MIAMI HISTORIC NEIGHBORHOODS PROJECT

Photographer Steven Brooke, who has been documenting Miami’s historic architecture and neighborhoods for over 30 years, created the Miami Historic Neighborhoods Project in 2020 to expand this photographic archive of Miami’s unique history and culture. The Miami Historic Neighborhoods Project encompasses many neighborhoods never thoroughly documented, such as Little Haiti, Little Havana, and areas settled by Miami’s first Black communities. This archive will provide an invaluable record of Miami’s architectural heritage in the face of increasing environmental and economic threats. The work will bring awareness of the fragility of Miami’s architectural legacy and the need for active participation in historic preservation efforts.
